Texans’ Kris Boyd breaks silence on coaching incident: ‘I just flipped’

Houston Texas linebacker Kris Boyd stunned NFL audiences Saturday when he threw his helmet and kicked his special teams coach after the first play of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Boyd was able to chase down Chiefs wide receiver Nikko Remgio to prevent a potential touchdown. He stripped the ball for the Chiefs to recover. He seemed unable to control his emotions and ran to the side and tore off his helmet kicking Frank Ross all the way down.

He talked about what happened after the game.

“I got the ball out,” Boyd said. “And when I wake up, I look out the window, I see nothing but white and they’re all pointing that way. So I was like, ‘Yeah, we’ve got the ball, too. And I just turned around.’

Boyd thought Houston had recovered. There was also a penalty flag on the field where he was penalized for removing his helmet.

“I just had so much fun, I did something I shouldn’t have done. Learned from it,” Boyd said. “Keep my helmet.”

Boyd said he apologized to the team after the incident and had no will with Ross.

“He told me, ‘Hey, listen, don’t worry about it,’” Boyd said. “We had a whole game to play, but I just wanted to make my point. Like I said, I’m not that kind of guy.”

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans, who did not witness the kick, criticized the incident.

Kings he won the game 22-14.
