The man of the New Hampshire, aged 54, stands well after his operation on June 14, announced Massachusetts General Hospital Massachusetts on Monday.

“I really wanted to contribute to the science of it,” said Bill Stewart, a sports coach from Dover, New Hampshire, to the Associated Press.

This is not the only important step that the Générale de Mass Marque team: a pork kidney has kept another man from the New Hampshire, Tim Andrews, excluding dialysis for seven record and cash. So far, the longest than a pork organ transplant published by the gene was known was 130 days.

Based on the lessons of the men of New Hampshire and a handful of other unique attempts, the Food and Drug Administration approved to start a rigorous study of the renal xenotransplants.

“Right now, we have a bottleneck” to find enough human organs, said the mass renal specialist, Dr. Leonardo Riella, who will help direct the new clinical trial.

More than 100,000 people are on the list of American clerks, most of them who need a kidney and thousands of people die pending. As an alternative, scientists genetically modify pigs so that their organs are more human, less likely to be immediately attacked and destroyed by the immune system of people.

The initial experiences, two hearts and two kidneys, were short -lived and included very sick patients. Chinese researchers have also recently announced a renal xenotransplant but have published little information. Then, a woman from Alabama whose pork kidney lasted 130 days before rejection caused her withdrawal, sending her back to dialysis, helped researchers move to non -ICT patients.

‘Give some hope for some people’

In New Hampshire, high blood pressure has made Stewart’s kidneys failed, but he had no other health problem. He can take up to seven years so that people with a blood group find a kidney with a deceased donor, and some living donors are not eligible. After two years of dialysis, he heard of the most recent Xenotransplant recipient of Mass General – Andrews – and asked to be the next candidate.

“I have always been a bit of a scientific nerd,” said Stewart. Aware of how these experiences are new, he sought Andrews to get advice and finally decided: “The worst case, they can always withdraw it”.

Delighted to no longer have his time and energy saved by dialysis, Stewart said that he was recovering in office tasks at work and visited his former dialysis clinic to “let everyone know that I am well and perhaps give some people a little hope”.

Riella, the kidneys specialist, said Stewart had adjusted his anti-rejection drugs to counter early concern and that Andws needed similar adjustments. He said that it was far too early to predict how long the pork kidneys could last – but it would be useful even if, initially, they could buy disassocatory people until they obtain a matching human organ.

“One year, let’s hope it longer-it’s already a huge advantage,” he said.

The new Engenesis test will provide pig kidney transplants published by 30 people aged 50 or over which are under dialysis and the transplantation list. Another developer of pork edict porcs of genes, United Therapeutics, is about to start registering people in a similar study approved by the FDA.
