Hubei disciplinary authorities say they have discovered five cases of party members and civil servants who are caught in games of chance or playing cards for money. The officials warned that this type of behavior harms discipline and damages public confidence.
In an opinion published on August 16, the Hubei Provincial Commission for the inspection and supervision of the discipline said that the rectification of games of chance and the card of card between managers had become “an important means of strengthening the work style” and that cases were the subject of a survey jointly with the public security bodies.
Hubei officials accused of illegal games
A case concerned Cheng Yidong, deputy mayor of the city of Laocheng in Songzi City. In June, Cheng participated in a Mahjong match for money at a lunch meeting and, in July, received a party warning.
Another case of Xiantao involved Li Zhihu, party secretary and director of the Xialiubu school, who had played Mahjong several times with money on the line during the Spring Festival holidays. Li also had a warning in June.
In Xiaogan, Fang Meng, a member of staff of the service center for the elderly from the Civil Affairs Office of the Xiangnan District, asked for leave in May, saying that there were family issues that take care of. Instead, Fang went to a tea room and played Mahjong with involved money, and then received a warning as a punishment.
And in Ezhou, Ding Jian, who works at the local land resources office, was captured by the police with cards in a store in March. Ding was sentenced to a fine of 500 yuan ($ 70) and also received a party warning.
The most serious affair concerned Wang Guixue, former assistant secretary of a branch of the village party in Qianjiang. From the beginning of 2024 to March of this year, Wang sent money on WeChat several times to join a six -lottery underground brand. The police arrested Wang for 11 days, inflicted a fine of 1,000 yuan ($ 139) and, in July, the game issued a serious warning.
The Commission said that cases have shown different types of misconduct, some officials breaking the rules on personal behavior, others playing during working hours and some crossing disciplinary and legal lines. The opinion criticized the people involved for showing “a lack of respect and a reckless contempt for the rules” and stressed that such actions “should be treated strictly”.
The declaration urged those responsible for learning from cases and “consciously resist such conduct”, warning that the game erodes ambition, disrupts work and corrodes social values.
China also tightens its position on the cross -border game, with the courts of order of the Supreme Court at the national level to impose strict sanctions on the organizers.
