Colombian senator and presidential hope Miguel Uibe died two months after being shot in the head in a targeted attack that shocked the South American nation.
The 39 -year -old man was touched by three bullets – two of them in the head and one in the leg – during a campaign rally on June 7 in the capital, Bogotá.
His wife confirmed his death on social networks, paying tribute to “the love of my life”.
A teenager was arrested for suspicion of having made the shooting, but the reason behind the attack is still unclear.
Uibe’s wife, MarÃa Claudia Tarazona, thanked her late husband for “a life full of love” and to be “the best father” for their children.
According to a statement published on Saturday by the hospital where Uibe was processed, the senator had undergone bleeding in his central nervous system and was to undergo surgery.
He had already undergone several surgeries since he was taken for the first time to the Santa Fe clinic in June.
His wife had asked people to pray for his recovery and thousands of people had turned out during watch and gatherings to show their support.

Uibe, who had been a senator since 2022, asked for the appointment of his party for the 2026 presidential election.
He attended a political event in a middle class district of the capital when he was shot.
A suspect teenager was arrested while fled the premises. The 15 -year -old was accused of attempted murder and pleaded not guilty.
Several others have been detained with suspicion of having helped the shooter.
The cheeky attack on the senator brought back memories of turbulent decades of the 80s and 90s in Colombia, when several presidential candidates and influential Colombian personalities were murdered.
Uiban’s own mother, journalist Diana Turbay, was kidnapped by Los extraditable in 1990 – an alliance created by the main drug lords.
It was retained hostage by them for five months before being killed during an attempt to sail.
Uibe has often quoted it as his inspiration to present himself to political functions “to work for our country”.
The extraditable, who said they would prefer a grave in Colombia to a prison cell in the United States, removed and attacked renowned Colombians to try to force the government at the time to overthrow its extradition treaty with the United States.
