The authorities say that a convenience store in East Charlotte faces several violations of the control of alcoholic beverages (ABC) after illegal game machines were found and seized earlier this year.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police service reports that police from the Eastway division obtained a tip in May 2025 on possible ABC and game violations at Kilborne Mart on Kilborne Drive. When the police inspected the store, they found four competition -style machines inside. The owner, Mussie Teklemarian Eterianos, 47, was invited to remove them.

Once more complaints have entered, the police carried out another ABC inspection on September 12. This time, they entered four illegal game stations and more than two thousand dollars in cash.

The police said that three ABC violations will be sent to the Northern Carolina Commission for exam, and a separate report will go to the NC Lottery Commission because the store also has lottery permits.

During the operation, Tesfaltet Gebrab, 46, was arrested and accused of theft by an employee. He also received quotes for playing and performing games of chance on an approved property. Estifanos was quoted for the game, the conduct of games of chance in license premises, the non-subupervise and the authorization to play in a place of public entertainment.

The investigation is still underway and the ABC commission will decide which administrative measures then take.

East Charlotte becomes the last illegal game operations site in the state

North Carolina has recently seen several similar cases. In March, Readwrite reported that the police had closed two illegal game operations in the state. One of these busts led to the entry of 50 machines, as well as $ 9,000 in cash found in a bag and a firearm discovered on the scene. During this incident, an arcade manager was shot, although it was not clear if the shooting was linked to the game activity.

The state has strict laws with regard to illegal game machines. Depending on the situation, the accusations can range from a crime to a crime, and have five or more machines is considered a criminal offense.
