The legal battle to manage the national lottery begins between Richard Desmond and UKGC

The legal battle between billionaire Richard Desmond and the UKGC will start this week to decide the license to manage the national lottery.
Northern & Shell and the New Lottery Company (TNLC), owned by Desmond, continues the British game commission up to 1.3 billion pounds sterling in a battle on the license to manage the national lottery. The company affirms that there have been “manifest errors” in the decision -making process that manages the lottery.
This occurs after Allwyn won the 10-year license to execute the game in 2022, with his leadership starting in 2024. Since then, Desmond has launched a series of legal challenges claiming that the submission competition itself was defective (with the predetermined result), and that Allwyn should have been undressed because he violated strict rules to do with the media. The allegations also point out that the commission was adjusted in the contract after Allwyn was chosen, which the Desmond team should have launched a replay.
The complaint is based on EU law and also highlights conflicts of alleged interests that have affected the impartiality of the UKGC to make the decision. Desmond lawyers claim that Northern & Shell and TNLC wasted 17.5 million pounds sterling on the application process in vain, as well as the loss of 1.3 billion pounds sterling due to the changes in commission.
Impact on the national lottery
Any payment won of the legal battle would be a significant loss for the charitable organizations involved in the national lottery, because the sum should be paid in the pot to finance charitable activities. In fact, the Guardian reports that if the payment is larger than the fund (which receives around 30 million pounds sterling per week of lottery sales), the cost would be transmitted to the taxpayer.
Desmond has already rejected a UKGC regulation offer, which is supposed to be worth around 10 million pounds sterling.
