The member of the New York Assembly wants to block sports books to limit bettors -

A member of the New York Assembly has tabled a bill that would prevent sports operators from limiting bettors according to the size or frequency of their bets.

The member of the Democratic Assembly, Alex Bores, tabled the bill, baptized A9125, on September 26. It aims to prevent sports betting operators from limiting sports bettors according to the size and frequency of their deposits and their bets, or to prohibit them entirely according to their success rate. The bill has now been referred to the Committee of Races and Paris. With the New York legislative session now closed until January, the bill will only progress until then.

If the bill is adopted, it would modify the law of the State and would mean that sports books cannot limit or block users because they gain financially from their Paris activity. There would be exemptions in place to cover opportunities when a suspicious Paris activity is suspected or when there are indications for dependence on the game or related damage.

Whenever an authorized sports bettor is limited or prohibited, the bill would force the operator to provide written advice and an explanation to the user within 24 hours.

Sportbook legislation in New York

Bores’ attempt to level the rules of the game for bettors in New York follows another bill tabled in April, who saw his other member of the Assembly, Robert Carroll, seeking to introduce a limit on the quantity of players can bet within 24 hours. Known as A7962, the invoice would implement a maximum total amount of $ 5,000 and a maximum number of deposits of five per 24 hours per customer.

The bill has not progressed since its introduction and will now have to wait for the new year, in the same as the A9,125 of Bores, thanks to the closed legislative session in New York.

These bills echo similar efforts made in Connecticut which aim to establish maximum betting limits for online sports betting.
