The new photo of the police in the American capital began to take shape on Tuesday while some of the 800 members of the US National Guard deployed by the Trump administration began to arrive.

Police and federal officials of the city, projecting cooperation, took the first steps in a difficult partnership to reduce crime in what US President Donald Trump called – without justification – a city without law.

The influx came in the morning after the republican president announced that he would activate the members of the guard and take control of the district police service, which the law allows him to temporarily do. He quoted an emergency of crime – but referred to the same crime that the stress of city officials already falls significantly.

In the evening, the administration said that the members of the National Guard were to be on the street from Tuesday evening, according to a White House official who was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke under the cover of anonymity.

The American army said there were no details on the locations they will patrol, according to an official who spoke under the guise of anonymity for the same reason.

The National Guard began to patrol the streets of Washington after US President Donald Trump said a criminal emergency. He also ordered the troops to eliminate all homeless camps by the end of the week.

The mayor undertakes to work alongside civil servants

The mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, is committed to working alongside federal officials that Trump has responsible for supervising the police for the city, while insisting that the police chief remained in charge of the department and his officers.

“How we got here or what we think of circumstances-at the moment, we have more police, and we want to make sure that we use them,” she told journalists.

The tone was a change compared to the day before, when Bowser said that Trump’s plan to take control of the Metropolitan Police Department and to call in the National Guard was not a productive stage and argued that his perceived state of emergency simply does not correspond to the drop in crime numbers.

Bowser’s allegations successfully reduces violent crimes rates received support earlier this year from an improbable source. Ed Martin, Trump’s initial choice for the American lawyer for the Columbia district, published a press release in April hosting a 25% drop in violent crimes compared to the previous year.

However, the law gives the federal government more inclination on the capital than in the American states, and Bowser said that the ability of its administration to be repelled is limited.

Could go beyond 30 days: press secretary

The law allows Trump to take over the DC police for 30 days, although the press secretary of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, suggested that she could last longer while the authorities “re -evaluate and re -evaluate and re -evaluate”. The extension of federal control after this period would require the approval of the congress, something likely to achieve in the face of democratic resistance.

About 850 officers and agents moved away from Washington on Monday and arrested 23 people overnight, Leavitt said. The accusations, she said, included homicide, driving driving, crimes of firearms and drugs and the escape of metro dishes.

It did not immediately provide information on the arrests.

For Trump, the effort to resume public security at DC reflects an escalation of his aggressive approach to the police. He also deployed the National Guard at the earliest this year, which is now challenged in court.

American Park police have also withdrawn 70 homeless camps in the past five months, she said.

People who lived in them can go, go to a shelter for homeless or go to drug addiction, said Leavitt. Those who refuse could incur fines or prison terms.

Trump’s declaration of the state of emergency corresponds to the general model of his second term. He declared states of emergency on questions ranging from border protection to economic prices, allowing him to govern essentially by decree. In many cases, he advanced while the courts settled them.

Sheina Taylor, from Washington, said the troops put her on the edge.

“It is more scary now because even if you are a citizen respectful of the laws, here at DC, you do not know, especially because I am African-American,” she said.
