The new Qualcomm Android chip could leave the iPhone 17 Pro in its dust for the game

Now that the iPhone 17 Pro A19 Pro chip has taken the front of the stage as a new heat in telephone silicon, Qualcomm tries to say that Android phones can be used more than browsing your social flows with zombie type efficiency. In comes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a confusing name for a chip with a spirit to a track: to push better graphics and multitasking capacities.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the continuation of the flagship product of the latest generation of Qualcomm, The Snapdragon 8 Elite. What do you know? Why not just ignore the name for the moment, especially if you browse these specifications? The new CPU on a 3NM process promises to be one of the fastest, with two “first -rate hearts” reaching a new stock -up speed of 4.6 GHz. The Snapdragon 8 elite managed to reach 4 GHz last year. Clock speeds never tell the whole story. The chip also houses six “performance” nuclei which go up to 3.6 GHz. The devices with the Elite Gen 5 should be more economical than before, so maybe you can work or play on your phone without withdrawing the battery life by the window.

The Elite 8 Gen 5 chip pushes the game and the video harder than ever on Android devices. The new chip supports the advanced professional video codec (APV), which is used by professional videographers in post-production. Most regular users will not exceed the default editing suite of a device before putting their content on Instagram or Tiktok. Even if the slogan “Shot on iPhone” is a gadget, Qualcomm could have a chip that would allow you at least to modify the video into a professional standard.
Games without destroying the battery life

I can’t help but ask myself how much time I have to wait until our Pochable Superordinators are really as capable as using a Mac or PC. The GPU Adreno, or graphic processing unit, in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, promises a 1.2 GHz clock speed with a leap of 23% of the performance compared to the elite 8, which was already damn good in play tasks. Adding to this is the dedicated memory cache called high performance memory. This should reduce latency and improve battery life for games or graphics.
The other big upgrade this year is Snapdragon Audio Sense. It is a form of microphone technology on chip for better noise cancellation and HDR audio. Qualcomm has suggested that this means that the microphone in new phones will be good enough for you not needing to reach a mic Lavalier or DJI when you really have to configure a fast podcasting session. We will have to judge for ourselves how good it is, but if Qualcomm wants your phone to be also your one-stop shop for video publishing, a good microphone would be particularly useful.
The new flagship chips of Qualcomm will reach all the expected features, from MMWAVE 5G and Wi-Fi 7 to the management of the external display which includes cooling rates from 4K to 120 Hz. Let us also exchange the other well explained element. The hexagonal NPU, or neural processing unit, allows intensive tasks in calculation without having to overload the GPU. The new hexagonal NPU in Snapdragon 8 elite is supposed to be 37% faster with more AI accelerators. That the following phones legitimately use the faster AI processing will be up to Samsung, OnePlus, Asus Rog and other apparatus manufacturers.
You will continue to hear the word “agentic”, as if it was a kind of magic spell that will transform your phone into a speaking familiar. Samsung has largely counted on the Gemini AI suite in Google in its Galaxy range, although the so-called Galaxy AI on Galaxy S24 functionality includes certain live translation capacities on calls. We expect Samsung to add some of the features of Google Pixel 10, such as Magic Cue.
It is not a “fifth generation” chip

Despite the name, the new chip is not the fifth “Elite” level chip. Although it is a continuation of the Snapdragon Gen 8 line, it is the third in the series using the company’s microarchitecture of the company. The new Qualcomm denomination conventions give me vibrations “Dell Premium Pro Max Plus”, mainly because of the way in which the business marketing manager, Don McGuire, had to go out early to explain how much the name is concerned … as long as you turn off your brain.
“Gen 5 is not only a number. This is a signal that this platform leads the family to the front,” wrote McGuire. If you have to write a separate article just to explain a name, it proves the opposite; Sequential numbers are much easier to analyze than empty marketing gadgets. The question of its power compared to the iPhone Air and the A19 PRO chip of 17 pro / pro max will be much more important than a name, anyway.
