The Philippine Senate warns the meta after the investigation.
During a stormy audience of the Senate of the Philippines on Tuesday, the Games and fun committee made a justification prescription against Meta for having omitted to send representatives to a critical survey on the rise of online illegal game on social media platforms.
This action occurred in the midst of increasing concerns about how these platforms attracted advertisements, promotions and operations, in particular after the government’s ban on play operators in the Philippins (Pogo) earlier in the year.
This has contributed to a rapid proliferation of illicit online activities, with the The Philippine Senate responded by launching an investigation into the climb.
The hearing was chaired by senator Erwin Tulfo, who was dismayed by the letter received from the Facebook and Instagram parent company, which detailed the company’s apology for non-spectacle, with an offer to meet the senator on a later date.

Senator Risa HONTIVEOS suggested that the Committee should issue an order of justification to Meta Philippines to explain why he should not be struck by a summons, with Tulfo supporting this position.
In a letter dated September 15, signed by the director of public policies Genexon David, the social media giant, said that his experts in the field on online gaming policies are based in Singapore and the United States and were not available to be present in Manila due to previous commitments.
Despite this, Meta insists on the fact that he takes the question seriously and transmitted his desire to dialogue with the Senate of the Philippines on the game and the content of acting in real money.
As part of a meeting in the near future, he could even submit a policy of politics on the local issue.
Senator Tulfo then underlined the urgency of the problem, detailing that 65% of the Philippins are systematically exposed to online gaming content. In a sign of its position on the application of the law, the legislator urged the Senate to consider a pure and simple prohibition of online games or to considerably strengthen effective regulatory guarantees.
He also recognized the nuanced reality of the situation, the damage linked to the game having to be balanced with the tax revenue to be allocated to key public spending, such as health care and the development of sport.
