The stars of “gachiakuta” say that the anime is more than its fights

Gala is a new series of anime Shonen which widens the phrase “trash of a man is the treasure of another man” in a saga of revenge in its own right. Led by Studio Bones, known for his work on My university heroHis story follows Rudo, a boy thrown into the pit, a literal abyss on the edge of an apartheid world, after being falsely accused and exiled from the floating city of spherit.
From there, the thrust of the show sees Rudo joining a group of superpowers known under the name of cleaners, who lacked precious objects with a personal sense as weapons as it makes its way to the world of the surface to demand its revenge.
While the anime wraps his first course and is preparing for the second half of his season of 24 episodes, Io9 spoke with the actors of the voice Bryson Baugus (Rudo) and Christopher Wehkamp (Enjin) to enter the stand to represent a new vision of the dynamics of the mentor of Shenor Shenor, and what it means to bring characters in a series that transforms the dynamics of VASH.
This interview was modified by brevity.
Isaiah Colbert, io9: fans are already calling Gala The next great thing in Shonen. In your opinion, what gives it this special spark which distinguishes it from the anima of classic and contemporary action which preceded it?
BRYSON BAUGUS: A lot the artistic style of (Gala) is the key – the first thing you notice on this subject. Nothing there, looks like completely Gala do. The conceptions of the characters are so unique, fashion is there, (and) the art of graffiti is wonderful. With the anime, the music is crazy. All you really have to do to bring people to check something is to have this eye intake. And once they have entered, they see these characters interact with each other. They see the relationships that are built, the mysteries of the world, and that really hangs viewers.
What distinguishes this as opposed to a handful of other shonen that I have seen in the past is that he really likes to take his time to establish these characters, their relationships and this construction of the world, instead of jumping from fighting to fight to fight.
Christopher Wehkamp: I agree with all this. The only thing I would add is that once you have exceeded this shooting and you start to check (Gachiakuta), the food system of this story is really interesting. It gives you something to think about yourself, and it gives you something to think – as the food system really seems to indicate the stories and key moments of these characters.
Even see a new character and see what their “Jinki” makes your mind advance “What does that mean for them? Here it came? And “How is it linked to what I see with this character?” It is a really cool recurring theme.
Io9: we talked about GalaThe world is unique. I found that it was like a chaotic mixture of MadGrain with punk graffiti Border districts flair. In addition, there are Kaiju trash monsters thrown into the mixture. Do you have voice action rituals or mental preparation that you use to exploit this energy before entering the stand?
Baugus: I generally try to remain hydrated. Rudo has a bit of a kind of granularity in his voice that I generally do not do in many other characters, so I try to make sure that I have hot tea, then I go. I just jump in depth as soon as I am here to record.
Wehkamp: I developed a ritual in about 2018. I had a particularly busy season where I express something like seven different characters in seven different programs. Not all were great characters, but they all started to mix in my mind. I was going to the studio and according to what I had that day, I started to associate different characters with different musical genres or artists. And so I would make a small reading list and listen to songs on my way.
Now, every time I have a recurring character, whether it is an anime, a video game or anything, I will associate a kind of music. If I can drive in the studio to do it, I will just put it, and it helps to put myself in the state of mind that I have associated with the character. In this way, when I enter both, I’m already there. I am in the area for this Wolrld for this character. It doesn’t always work when I record at home. I have to sit in the stand and activate Spotify a little that will take me there too. I don’t do this all the time, but it helps with characters I know that I will come back when I associate it with music in my mind.
Io9: What is a song you play to get into the atmosphere for Enjin?
Wehkamp: I have what I call a rock rock reading list, so it is not necessarily a group. I like the fact that when I put a reading list against a group, it will throw me songs that I may have never heard of an artist that I have never heard. In a way, this creates the association even better in my mind. It is less the group and the real song; This is more of the atmosphere. I couldn’t even tell you one at the top of my head right now, honestly, I just put a playlist. It’s a bit like bass with five strings, blues progressions, a very deep dirty rock, so it really seems to be the atmosphere for me. I really like your Mad Comparison too! I am a huge Mad Fan, and it’s a great comparison.
IO9: Shonen heroes often have the impression of bringing the weight of the world to their shoulders while they venture into an adventure. Rudo, however, is imbued with a revenge tale of the Greek tragedy. How did you approach expressing a character in constant balance between rage, sorrow and hope?
Baugus: I try to think about where it is at the base. I have the impression that he has this anger for him, and I have the impression that he definitely has these moments when he lets him go beyond, that’s for sure. But at the base, he is still just a very poorly understood child who tries to find his people there. He was rejected all his life. He had regto as a paternal figure, (but) that’s almost everything he had. He had chiwa when he was in the sphere as a good friend with whom he grew up, but when things happen and he no longer has a chiwa, he is on the ground that seeks to take up a lot of these relationships – trying to find this family that he had never really had.
And so, I come to him from a vulnerability rather than unleash anger against everything. He has these moments, but I have the impression that his default state is a little more introspective. He reflects on what’s going on and he takes what’s going on around him. I think he learns from everyone around him how to manage certain situations that he has never encountered before, or how to better manage situations that before.
Io9: Enjin joins a long line of Mentor type characters from Shonen Anime. If you could describe Ajin’s philosophy in a few words – something he would pass to Rudo as sage’s advice – what would it be?
Wehkamp: I immediately think that he is attracted by what he perceives as the potential of Rudo. I might think that there may be something beyond, “it would be a good adjustment for cleaners” or “it could certainly kill a lot of beasts”. There seems to be more than he recognizes as precious in this. For me, I think he will end up being the reason why Rudo is able to acclimatize and find a place for himself on the ground. Where it goes from there, obviously, we do not know, but I am so interested in discovering it.
I think that cleaners, as an organization, seem to be really hyper -centered on the garbage hunting. But there is so much more to be a donor than to use these things to kill animals. Potentially, there could be much more to do in this world for these guys.
There is still so little that we know and I am very excited to see how it all materializes. Within these first 11 episodes, (Bones A) gave us so many attractive little clues to the place where he could be directed, so I can’t wait to discover it.
Io9: if you lived in the world of Gala And had a given power, what personal element of your element would be your vital instrument, and what capacity would it give you?
Baugus: I have a small copy of a game in a game advance for the game for Mega Man Battle Network 2 that the label has been completely taken off after years through Hell and return. I put a small Sharpie with the name on it and everything. I would probably cherish this, and it would turn into something like a tote game card that allows me to say: “I want to play this right now”, and it becomes this game. I think it would be cool.
Wehkamp: I was drummer in groups throughout the twenties, so it was a large part of my life before starting to do VO work. I always have my drumsticks that I started cutting my teeth at the age of 14 or 15. They are beaten, destroyed. But I would like to be able to remove them wherever I am, and a set of ghostly battery will appear, and I could start to blur anywhere. And it is also full volume for me, but no one else can hear it, so I have to disturb anyone with sandwich. I think it confuses a lot of people around me to see that, but I would like it; It would be great.
