The United Nations protest on the Israeli Minister’s proposal to “bury” the idea of the Palestinian state
The Israeli Far-Right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has announced that the work would start on a long delayed colony that would divide the West Bank and the Cup of East Jerusalem, a move says that his office “would” buried “the idea of a Palestinian state.
The Palestinian government, the allies and campaign groups condemned the program, the illegal appellant and saying that the fragmentation of the territory would scam the peace plans for the region.
On Thursday, Smotrich, a colonist himself, said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the US president of Smotrich Donald Trump agreed with the Renaissance of the E1, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump agreed with the Renaissance of Development E1, although there was no immediate confirmation.
“Anyone in the world is trying to recognize a Palestinian state today will receive our response on the ground. Not with documents or with decisions or declarations, but with facts of houses, districts’ facts,” said Smotrich.
Asked about his remarks, a spokesperson for the United States Department of State said: “A stable West Bank maintains Israel in security and complies with the objective of this administration to achieve peace in the region”, and referred to journalists from the government of Israel for more information.
The spokesman said Washington was mainly concentrated in the end of the war in Gaza.
The United Nations urged Israel to reverse its decision to start working on the regulations.
“It would end the prospects for a solution to two states,” said UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, to journalists. “The regulations go against international law … (and) have further strengthened the occupation.”
International rejection of the construction of colonies
Israel frozen construction plans in Maale Adumim in 2012, and again after being relaunched in 2020, in the midst of the United States, European Allies and other powers that considered the project as a threat to any future peace agreement with the Palestinians.
The restart of the project could also isolate Israel, who saw some of its Western allies condemn its military offensive in Gaza and announce that they could recognize a Palestinian state.
The Palestinians fear that the construction of colonies in the West Bank – which has been strongly intensified since the attack of Hamas in 2023 against Israel which led to the Gaza War – will steal any chance of building their own state in the region.
Canada has joined the United Kingdom, Norway, Australia and New Zealand to sanction Israeli legislators Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich for violence against the Palestinians in the West Bank ”, calling the Palestinians to be moved to the broad Israeli establishments.
In an inductor press release “buried the idea of a Palestinian state”, the Smotrich spokesperson said that the minister had approved the construction plan of 3,401 houses for Israeli settlers between an existing regulation in the West Bank and in Jerusalem.
In Maale Adumim, Smotrich, ultra-nationalist of the right-wing coalition which has long pleaded for Israeli sovereignty on the West Bank, told Reuters that the plan would come into force on Wednesday.
Breaking the Silence, a group for the defense of Israeli rights created by former Israeli soldiers, said that what he called an earth taking up “not only will still fragment Palestinian territory, but he will hear apartheid”.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, called on the United States to put pressure on Israel to stop the construction of colonies.
“The EU rejects any territorial change which is not part of a political agreement between the parties involved. Thus, the annexation of the territory is illegal under international law,” said spokesman for the European Commission Anitta Hipper.
The house building would start in a year
Peace Now, who follows the regulation activity in the West Bank, said that there were steps that must be completed before construction. But if everything took place, the infrastructure work could start in a few months and the construction of a house in about a year.
“The E1 plan is fatal for the future of Israel and for any chance of obtaining a peaceful solution to two states. We are close to an abyss, and the government makes us advance at full speed,” Peace said in a statement.
The consecutive Israeli governments have launched, approved, planned and financed regulations, according to the Israeli Group of Rights Yesh DIN.
Some settlers have moved to the West Bank for religious or ideological reasons, while others have been drawn by lower housing costs and government incentives. They include double American and European citizens.
Since January, Israel has forced tens of thousands of people on refugee camps of decades in occupied West Bank and installed obstacles to restrict movements across the territory. The FDI says that this prevents terrorism, but the displaced Palestinians say that Margaret Evans of CBC, they fear that this can be a precursor of the annexation.
The Palestinians were already demoralized by the Israeli military campaign, which killed more than 61,000 people in Gaza, according to local health authorities. They are now afraid that Israel is pushing them out of this territory.
About 700,000 Israeli settlers live among 2.7 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Israel annexed East Jerusalem in 1980, a decision not recognized by most countries, but did not officially extend sovereignty over the West Bank.
The UN and most global powers say that the expansion of regulations has eroded the viability of a two -state solution by fragmented the Palestinian territory. The two-state plan provides for a Palestinian state in East Jerusalem, in the West Bank and Gaza, existing side by side with Israel.
Israel cites historical and biblical ties with the region and says that the colonies offer strategic depth and security.
Most of the world community considers all illegal colonies under international law.
Israel rejects this interpretation, claiming that the West Bank is “disputed” rather than the “occupied” territory.
Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand imposed sanctions in June in Smotrich and another far-right minister who pleads for the expansion of regulations, both accitus having repeatedly prompted violence against the Palestinians in the West Bank.
