The United States has criticized for denying Mahmoud Abbas Visa to attend the UN as a state Palestinian to discuss

The United States indicates that this will not allow entry to Mahmoud Abbas into the country, where it was ready to attend a rally of world leaders at the United Nations in New York, which prompted a spokesperson for the Palestinian president to call for the decision to be reversed.
Representatives from Canada and several other countries have said they are ready to recognize the Palestinian state when they attend the United Nations General Assembly, which should open its doors before Hamas’s second anniversary on October 7, 2023, which sparked the war with Israel in Gaza.
An official of the US State Department said that Abbas and around 80 other Palestinians would be affected by the decision to deny and revoke the visas of members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority based in the West Bank (PA), an administrative body that governs Palestinian territories and deals with areas such as security, health and education.
The Palestinians have an observer status at the UN, such as the Holy See (Vatican).
At the end of last month, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada would join the United Kingdom, France and other allies to recognize a Palestinian state at the next United Nations Assembly. This represents a change in Canadian foreign policy, which for decades has supported a solution to two states.
Abbas’ office said it was amazed by the United Nations visa’s visa decision.
Under the 1947 agreement, the United States is generally required to authorize access to foreign diplomats to the UN. However, Washington said he could deny visas for reasons of security, extremism and foreign policy.
Foreign Ministers criticize the American decision
On Saturday, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for Abbas, called Washington to modify the decision.
“We call on the American administration to reverse this decision, which contradicts international law, in particular the agreement of the siege between the United Nations and the United States, which prohibits the preventing delegation of access,” he told Reuters.
Several European foreign ministers arriving at a European Union meeting in Copenhagen criticized the American decision on Saturday.
A United Nations General Assembly “cannot be subject to any restriction on access,” said French Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, to journalists. Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Harris said the EU should protest against the decision “in the strongest possible terms”.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said in a statement that he spoke with Abbas to express Madrid’s support. Sanchez also described the “unfair” visa decision.
“Palestine has the right to make its voice heard to the United Nations and in all international forums,” he said on the social media platform X.
After almost two years of war, the Palestinians of Gaza welcome the news that Canada will recognize a Palestinian state in September – with conditions – but some say that the decision arrives “a little too late”.
The State Department justified its decision by reiterating long -standing and Israeli allegations according to which the Palestinian authority and the PLO had failed to repudiate extremism while putting pressure for the “unilateral recognition” of a Palestinian state.
Palestinian officials reject such allegations, saying that decades of mediated talks by the United States have not ended the Israeli occupation and to guarantee an independent state of Palestine.
“(IT) is in our national security interests to hold the PLO and the AP responsible for not complying with their commitments and undergoing the perspectives of peace,” said the State Department.
He indicated that the mission of the Palestinian authority at the UN, involving officials who are permanently, would not be included in the restrictions.
One says he will discuss the visa problem with us
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that the organization would discuss the visa issue with the State Department.
In 1988, the United States refused to issue a visa from the Palestinian chief of the time, Yasser Arafat. The United Nations General Assembly held a meeting that year in Geneva instead of New York so that he can remedy it.
The State Department said that this required the AP and OLP “constantly repugnate terrorism”, including the fatal attack in October 2023 of Hamas against Israel which sparked the Gaza War.
In June, Abbas wrote a letter to the French president in which he condemned the attack on Hamas and called the hostages taken by the militant group to be released.
The Minister of Israeli Foreign Affairs, Gideon Saar, praised the decision of the State Department.
Israel and the United States are thwarted by several Western allies who have committed to recognizing a Palestinian State in the United Nations General Assembly in September.
At least 147 of the 193 United Nations member states already recognize a Palestinian state.
The Palestinians have long asked for a state in the West Bank occupied by Israeli and Gaza, with East Jerusalem as capital. The United States said that a Palestinian state can only be established by direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.
