Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says he has no money to sign this month and winger Miguel Almiron could leave the club.
Newcastle have not made a big signing since Tino Livramento arrived for £32m from Southampton in August 2023 and missed out on Marc Guehi last summer.
With the Premier League’s profit-making and sustainability rules also giving clubs a headache Howe says meeting the restrictions that forced them to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh is a challenge.
Almiron is the latest player to be linked to MLS this month.

Howe said: “No one wants to lose players in our squad, especially when we are a bit weak. So why should we put ourselves in this position?
But when you know everything, sometimes you have to feel the pain for a little while.
“I don’t know if this summer will be different and suddenly the attitude changes. I think that’s for another day. All I can say is that hopefully the future will look very different.
“There is no pot of money waiting to be used, it’s all about June 30 and making sure you’re in compliance by that date.” Obviously if you spend money, then you have to pay it back later. “
For now, Howe and his players will focus on trying to make the club 10th in a row when they face former club Bournemouth on Saturday.
Fabian Schar is a doubt due to illness while goalkeeper Nick Pope is close to returning.
