A brush fire in a mountainous area north of Los Angeles ignited and spread on Thursday, forcing thousands of evacuations.

The Canyon fire ignited around 1:30 p.m., the local time, spending more than six square kilometers in five hours, according to the Emergency Response from the county of Ventura. It was not contained late Thursday afternoon and spread to the east, said the county.
