Trump billionaire donors “now control” Tiktok algorithm, says JD Vance

President Donald Trump signed an executive decree on Thursday afternoon, opening the way to an agreement to put Tiktok in American hands, with some of his nearest billionaire allies ready to take the reins.
“It will be operated by the United States,” said Trump at the signing, adding that the agreement had been informed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. “I have great respect for President XI, and I really appreciate that he approved the agreement, because to do it correctly, we really needed China’s support and China approval.”
Who is in the agreement
The property structure is still being finalized, but Trump has revealed that Oracle, and its co-founder Larry Ellison would play a “big” role in the management of the application, since they had already stored a large part of Tiktok American data in their servers. Ellison was an ally of the president, raising millions for the president’s campaign and advisor to the Pandemic COVID-19.
He also added that the conservative media magnate Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox Corporation – who directs Fox News – is an investor, and the computer billionaire Michael Dell would also sit on the board of directors. He suggested that three other “Blue Chip” donors were also part of the group, but did not announce who they were.
For Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, a participation in Tiktok could provide a way to reach a younger audience beyond traditional television and printing, where the Empire of the News Corp family dominates-and perhaps buying their disastrous purchase of MySpace almost 20 years ago. The terms of the role of Fox remain vague, but a tiktok link would join the minority issues that the Murdoch already hold in the companies of floating and fandual Paris, and more cement of the Empire after a recent restructuring of family confidence assured its succession as heir to Rupert.
Vice-president JD Vance said that the agreement gives the Americans authority over the prized algorithm of Tiktok; The system that dictates that more than 170 million American users see their flows. Speaking when the president signed the executive decree in the oval office, Vance set Tiktok’s value at $ 14 billion – significantly lower than the previous estimates that placed US Tiktok assets up to 100 billion dollars depending on access to the algorithm.
“This agreement will allow the United States to control the algorithm of the application,” he said. “It will be exploited by the United States all along.”
For Trump, the signature was more than national security – he linked it to his wider sales program, boasting of prices and their windfall.
However, the concerns are surfaced on what it means for Trump’s allies to control a platform with such an influence on American political discourse.
Trump himself joked on algorithmic favoritism: “I still like the Maga. If I could do 100% Maga, I would do it, but it won’t work that way, unfortunately. No, everyone will be treated fairly. Each group, each philosophy, each policy will be treated very equitably. ”
Vance also stressed that the company would stimulate the content decisions of the application: “We want the company to make decisions concerning the content according to the interest of the company and according to the interest of users, and this is what we think we are coming.”
The signature also lays the basics of Trump’s first meeting in person with XI since returning to the office. The two leaders should discuss the agreement more at the next APEC summit in South Korea.
Tiktok did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
