The clock may not be The rush of TikTok faster than some first thought. The social media site may be getting help from TikTok’s anti-user of President-elect Trump. On Sunday, Trump told NBC News that it was “possible” to give TikTok a 90-day extension from the January 19 deadline after taking office on Monday.

On Friday, TikTok released a statement about the “possible shutdown,” expressing frustration with the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend two people’s orders to block the app unless their Chinese company sells it by Sunday.

“Today’s announcement by the Biden White House and the Department of Justice fails to provide the clarity and assurance to service providers that is necessary to make TikTok accessible to more than 170 million Americans,” TikTok said.

The social media company called on Biden’s administration to ensure that the ban is not enforced, adding that TikTok will be “forced to go dark” if the White House fails to do so.

“Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary put $20 billion on the table to buy the program.

“There’s a reason Congress put this law before the Supreme Court. There’s a reason they decided to go along with it. It’s not worth taking the risk,” O’Leary said. “And the obvious answer is to sell it to an American corporation as per the plan.”

This is not the first time that Trump has hinted that he is considering supporting the video-sharing app. Last month, Trump admitted that he has a “warm spot in my heart” for the cause TikTok after using it in his latest presidential campaign.

“He has repeatedly stated that he believes that TikTok is an app through which millions of Americans are exercising their First Amendment rights and that the government cannot simply shut down First Amendment rights and violate the constitutional rights of tens of millions of Americans who are freely speaking on the app,” the press secretary of Trump’s White House Caroline Leavitt said “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” on Friday.

“It’s a very positive outcome for every American company to have this program,” added Leavitt.

TikTok, which took the internet by storm during the COVID-19 pandemic, has become a subject of controversy because of their company’s relationship with the Chinese government. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have raised concerns that the app could contain tools or collect user information.

As of now, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has until midnight to sell the platform.
