Trump threatens to send the national guard to Baltimore to “clean up” the crime

President Donald Trump threatened to deploy troops in Baltimore, degenerating a confrontation with the governor of Maryland Wes Moore after the Democrat invited him to join a “security march” in the city.
“If Wes Moore needs help, as Gavin Newscum did in Los Angeles, I will send the” troops “, which is done in DC nearby and quickly clean the crime,” Trump wrote on social networks.
The remarks mark the last flash point of the president’s efforts to deploy national guard troops in cities led by Democrats as part of what he calls a repression against crime.
The use of military personnel for the national police has attracted a fierce reaction to the Democrats. A governor described it as an “abuse of power”.
Up to 1,700 national guards should mobilize in 19 states in the coming weeks, American media report.
Governor Moore, a frequent critic of the president’s strategy, said that Trump’s comments on the fight against crime “turned out to be such, so deaf and so ignorant”.
“It’s because they didn’t work on the streets,” said Moore. “They were not in our communities, and they are more than happy to continue to do these repeated tropes around us.”
Trump’s Trump’s Trump Sunday comments seemed to be a direct response to Moore’s invitation letter to Trump that the president described as “bad” and “provocative”.
“As president, I prefer to clean this crime disaster before going there for a” walk “,” wrote Trump.
Trump has already deployed around 2,000 soldiers in Washington DC, a democratic bastion. The White House indicates that hundreds of arrests have been made since the start of the operation.
Speaking on Friday in the oval office of the White House, Trump said that the mission had brought “total security” to Washington.
“DC was hell,” he said. “But now, that’s for sure.”
On Friday, the Pentagon confirmed that the troops which were previously in the non -armed American capital would begin to carry weapons.
These troops – which were sent to Washington DC by a handful of states led by the Republicans – have so far not participated in law implementation operations. Instead, they were displayed near local landmarks.
According to crime figures published by the Metropolitan Police of Washington DC (MPDC), violent offenses fell after having culminated in 2023 and 2024 reached their lowest level in 30 years.
They continue to fall, according to preliminary data for 2025.
The crime violent overall is down 26% this year compared to the same point in 2024, and the flight fell 28%, according to the MPDC.
Trump suggested that he would also deploy troops in New York and Chicago.
This escalation led to the conviction of Democratic leaders of other states and cities, including the governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, who said that Trump’s threats to deploy troops in Chicago are an abuse of power.
The chief of the Democrat minority House Hakeem Jeffries also weighed, saying that Trump does not have the legal authority to send troops to cities like Baltimore and Chicago.
He said that the president exploited reduced crime levels – such as “fewer Baltimore homicides in more than 50 years” – to make a crisis.
A survey by the Washington Post and the Schar School released earlier this week revealed that the deployment was deeply unpopular among the city residents, with almost 80% saying that they were opposed to both the deployment of federal officers and the National Guard, as well as the takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department.
