Rescuers say that 20 people were injured in southern Israel after the Israeli army said that a drone had been launched from Yemen.

Israeli defense forces (FDI) said that the drone had hit the city of Eilat on the Red Sea coast, with attempts to intercept it.

Emergency medical service Magen David Adom said 20 people had been taken to Yoseftal hospital – two with serious injuries to members.

The Israeli media described him as a Houthi strike, but the Yemeni group did not officially claim responsibility.

The Israeli television stations broadcast live images which would be the strike of the drone and the area he struck, which showed smoke which rises from the site.

“TSAhal troops, alongside the Israel, were sent to the Eilat area after receiving a UAV attack,” the IDF said in a statement.

He added that the troops and the police helped to evacuate the region and that a helicopter had been deployed to evacuate the wounded from the scene.

The soldiers urged people to stay in protected areas for 10 minutes if they received an alert.

The attack, if claimed by the Houthis, would be one of the most serious launched by the group in terms of victims.

In July 2024, a person was killed and 10 injured in a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv when a drone struck an apartments building near the U.S. Embassy branch.

Earlier in September, a person was injured when a Houthi drone hit Ramon airport, just north of Eilat.
