Ukraine will not give up the land, says Zelensky before the meeting of Trump-Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that he will not make any territorial concessions to Russia before a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on the future of the war in Ukraine.

The American-Russia meeting is expected to take place in Alaska on August 15.

A few hours before announcing the meeting, Trump had pointed out that Ukraine might have to give up a territory to end the war, which began with the large -scale invasion of Russia in February 2022.

Zelensky said on a telegram on Saturday that “Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier”. He reiterated that Ukraine should be involved in any solution for peace and said he was ready to work with partners for “real” and “sustainable” peace.

Zelensky said that Ukraine “will not grant rewards in Russia for what she has done.”

“The answer to the Ukrainian territorial question is already part of the Constitution of Ukraine.

His statement followed Trump’s comments to the White House on Friday that there will be “an exchange of territories, to improve the two”.

“You are looking at a territory that has been taking place for three and a half years, many Russians have died. Many Ukrainians have died,” said the American president.

He did not provide more details on what such a proposal would look like.

Trump then announced the meeting between him and Putin, saying that more details will follow. The meeting was then confirmed by the Kremlin.

Zelensky said on Saturday that Ukraine is ready for “real solutions that can bring peace” but stressed that Ukraine should be involved.

“All solutions against us, all solutions without Ukraine, are both solutions against peace,” he said.

“We are ready, with President Trump, with all the partners, to work for real peace and above all sustainable – a peace that will not collapse because of the wishes of Moscow.”
