Unibet struck with a fine of $ 500,000 to offer betting on the prohibited markets


Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has taken measures against the OptDeck service, the Dutch operator of the prominent Unibet brand, with a fine of € 450,000 ($ 524,160).

Consequently, Kansspelautoriteit delivered a weekly penalty of € 75,000, capped at € 450,000.
“KSA sees an insufficient improvement and a real chance of rehearsal,” said a statement from the Dutch regulator.
“According to Dutch legislation on the game, it is not authorized to organize bets on certain matches and competition components. It is a question of protecting the integrity of sport and preventing the manipulation of these sports betting.”
Kansspelautorite has estimated that Unibet generated income of around € 300,000 compared to prohibited bets, with a maximum penalty of € 450,000 representing 1.5 times this amount.
The penalty order of € 75,000 per week will be payable if Unibet does not withdraw bets prohibited within three weeks of the penalty order, or in the event of repeated violation of the rules.

Recent work undertaken by KSA has used the CDB to carry out automated checks on all game licensees, but this has revealed at least a potential failure for each operator.
