US Open 2025: President Donald Trump to attend the final of male singles in New York

President Donald Trump will attend the final of American singles in the United States on Sunday in what will be his first visit to the Grand Chelem tennis event since 2015.

Trump, who was re -elected in 2024 for a second term, has not been to the New York tournament since coming to power in 2016.

He had already visited Flushing Meadows several times before being joined by his wife Melania during his last visit ten years ago.

A White House official confirmed to the BBC that the president had to attend.

In 2015, Trump was greeted by the major American champion six times John McEnroe while he was watching from a hospitality area.

Trump, 79, was born in the New York Queens district where the Grand Chelem tournament takes place.

No American player will participate in the male final, which begins at 2:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. BST) on Sunday.

The finalists will be decided by the last four matches on Friday, when the Novak Djokovic in Serbia plays Carlos Alcaraz in Spain, followed by Jannik Sinner of Italy against Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada.
