Bill Skarsgård is back as Pennywise for the He prequel Welcome to Derry, And as the movies, the show will use it when the frightening situation will really call it.

Speaking to SFX magazine, the co-showrunner Andy Muschietti compared the appearances of the clown in the series to the shark in Jaws: “It is very suitable for a monster which is a metamorph to appear in several different forms and demonstrations before presenting itself as a clown,” he said. “The idea is to build tensions around the appearance of a monster that we already know, and people wait-when will he appear?”

A simple idea, of course, but a muschietti and his co-showrunner (and his sister) Barbara say more than works for Welcome to Derry. The latter called the new creations prepared for the show “Right Damn Incredible” and “So much more” than what was seen in the trailers. Since each episode was made to “pack a punch”, the team tried to make these “new incarnations and fears” stand alone while being up to the level of what was achieved in the two films.

“When (Pennywise) appears, it’s important,” said Andy Muschietti. He hopes that the public will find him “rewarding” when the cosmic entity will appear on the screen, and we will see how this tip works when Welcome to Derry First on October 26 on HBO.
