Women’s World Cup 2025: BCCI clarifies the handle policy in the middle of India vs Pakistan Tensions

The Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) officially clarified its position on the handshake for the next India vs Pakistan Women’s World Cup ICC 2025 shock. The long -awaited match will be played in Colombo on October 5, but unlike past meetings, there will be no hand handles or joint team gestures.
This comes in the wake of the male final of the Asian Cup 2025, where the Indian team not only refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts, but also refused to accept the Trophy of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohin Naqvi. Following this previous one, the BCCI extended the same approach on the side of women.
No hand handles, no photo sessions, no interaction
Speaking on the question, the secretary of the BCCI, Devajit Saikia, refrained from giving a direct response to hand handles, but stressed that “The diplomatic and sports relations of India with Pakistan remain unchanged and tense.”
According to several reports, the women’s team has been informed that:
- There will be no handshake in the draw.
- No photo shoot with the match referee will take place.
- No end -of -game handshake will be observed.
Although MCC cricket protocols will be followed, the absence of these traditional gestures is now an official policy for male and female teams.
The decision comes in the context of Pahalgam’s terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor, both of which increased tensions between the two countries. The position of the BCCI is aligned with the diplomatic position of the Indian government, emphasizing more how politics and cricket remain deeply linked to rivalry in India-Pakistan.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Chose not to get into controversy, declaring that his team firmly focuses on performance on the field. However, the contrast with previous meetings – such as the ODI 2022 World Cup in New Zealand, where the two teams showed heat and camaraderie – stresses how the atmosphere has changed.
