The New Girl star, 45, shared her loss as she posted a series of photos via Instagram Friday, January 17.
Among the photos was a photo of his childhood home in Pacific Palisades still standing, while another photo taken from the same location showed it reduced to ash and debris following the January wildfires that ravaged the area.
Some photos showed Zooey’s family, including his sister is Bones stars Emily Deschanel48, inside and outside the house for many years to make memories.
“My childhood home. Amazing 1920s Spanish Revival architecture. Filled with too many memories to read, it was one of the oldest homes in the Palisades and the most beautiful,” Zoeey wrote in the caption. “It was a big house but it was nice and lovely and special and perfect for me.”
The artist expressed how much her home meant to her in an emotional post.
“One of my friends growing up called it ‘The Church’ because the 14-foot ceiling with stained glass windows in the living room cast beautiful shadows at the end of the day. And to me it was a sanctuary, a sanctuary where we felt very safe. Christmas dinners, hunting.” Easter eggs, trick or treating, weddings, birthdays, baby showers… “Family pictures on the couch, artwork, the piano I learned to play, something the wedding ceremony, the furniture my grandfather built… mementos of past generations: All gone.”
He continued: “I know we are not alone. Along with another LA beauty spot, Alta Dena, the streets of my childhood in Pacific Palisades have been removed as we know them. Many people have lost a lot.”
Zoeey continued to pay tribute to those who helped her, her family and the community. He also gave a special shout out to the firefighters who have been working tirelessly on the front lines, describing them as “true heroes.”
“To all the people who have shown us and our team and Los Angeles in general: Thank you. To the firefighters who have been working day and night to protect everyone: You are our true heroes,” added Zoeey. “To the friends who have been nice to think of us during this time: you texted and called us, came to visit us, cooked us food, sent clothes to my parents who left with nothing, made us feel at ease. joke and died with us when we needed it. Your kindness is the medicine that made it possible . To the guests who encouraged us with kind hands: you are the true meaning of the group.”
He concluded by saying: “Thank you all for showing us the goodness of your hearts.” You have no idea what it means to us. “
More than 12,000 homes are estimated to have been destroyed by the wildfires that are ravaging areas of Los Angeles including the Pacific Palisades area, Malibu, Santa Monica and the Hollywood Hills. Famous people like Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Paris Hilton and Miles Teller and among those whose houses burned down.
