AI company Perplexity wants to merge with TikTok to avoid ban: report

Artificial intelligence (AI) company Perplexity AI has asked to cooperate with TikTok US, so that the video-sharing platform can avoid being banned in the country, according to a report.

The request, which was made to the Chinese parent company, ByteDance, will combine Perplexity AI, TikTok US and new businesses and will allow many of ByteDance’s investors to keep their money, CNBC reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

Congress has passed a block TikTok last year that goes into effect on Sunday unless China’s ByteDance sells the company.

However, ByteDance on Saturday said it plans to “go black” on Sunday unless the Biden administration provides “certain” assurances that the ban will not be enforced.
