Teofimo Lopez is training with Team Canelo, to be Sharp in a joint fight that will face IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins. This fight will not end well for ‘The Takeover’ Lopez if he goes through with it.
Hitchins is like a combination of Shakur Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Subriel Matias. He can do everything, and he is very hard to hit. I don’t see this ending well for Teofimo.
Time Machine Needed
Lopez says he feels it “Changed,” but they will need a time machine to make this happen. He hasn’t looked his best in years so taking him for granted is impossible. He’s 27 years old, and it’s hard to believe he’s not yet 30, judging by how he looks from 2021.
Teo is still a good talker and will be able to get fans excited about his fights in 2025, but as far as success goes, it won’t happen unless he matches weaker opponents. He’s become that kind of fighter – the kind of Adrien Broner who can talk the talk but not fight the lick.
Canelo’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, will need to be a magician to revive Teofimo and bring him back to the way he was years ago.
If Teo goes 0-2 In his fights in 2025, Turki Al-Sheikh may have buyer’s remorse for signing him to a three-fight contract. If you look at Teofimo’s fights since 2021, you can’t expect much from him other than losses and underperformance. Heavyweight boxing fans are well aware that Teo is in the doldrums of his career, and he will never go back to being the fighter he once was.
Claggett Disaster
Teo looked like he was on a roll after his last fight against Steve Claggett last July, and he was beaten pretty badly.
You can give Lopez a break for looking bad against Jamaine Ortiz, Sandor Martin, George Kambosos, and Pedro Campa because they are good fighters. But there is no excuse for Teo fighting Claggett and having both eyes almost closed due to swelling.
Lopez’s Three-Fight Plan
- Richardson Hitchins
- Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis
- Finals in February 2026
If Teofimo loses his shoes in October, his fight in February will be against Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney 2 losses.
The Loser Bracket Beckons
It is possible that Lopez could enter the losing position, ready to fight Haney. It’s a great fight for Teofimo, but only because Haney can’t take a punch.
WBO 140-lb champion Tefoimo (21-1, 13 KOs) hopes to get off to a good start in 2025 by taking on unbeaten Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs), then IBF 147-lb champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. in Oc
WBO 140-lb champion Teo is a good champion, but he is not the fighter he was five years ago. He may not have been a great talent to begin with, but he has been on the decline since 2020.
Three Wars, Three Losses?
“We just do it and take it. It’s a good year for me. I feel refreshed. These are exciting fights that we’re looking forward to making and taking,” said Teofimo Lopez. Fight with Hub TV about his plans to fight in a joint match with Richardson Hitchins, then Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in October.
“I won’t fight until the beginning of summer. I want to do business this year. I want to make the right contracts. Richardson Hitchins, Jaron Ennis and then finally. I’m fighting a hero, then a big fight.
They just need to let go of their pride and arrogance. Just play business,” said Teofimo when asked if we’ll see him and Gervonta Davis fight. If you really want to fight us, this is how we do it.”
